At Lumsden Playcentre, we believe in providing a positive learning environment, with a strong focus on play and building relationships between children, families & the community. We encourage child-initiated play at every session, offering a variety of experiences which allows for children from birth to school age to play and learn alongside each other.
With our big outdoor play area, children and adults are often found spending lots of time outdoors exploring the sandpit, playground, swings, water play and our very special whare which our children named Te Whare Manawa (the house of heart). We are very lucky to have 2 large indoor areas including our hall which has lots of equipment for our tamariki to keep active even when the Southland weather hinders outdoor play. We encourage all types of play including messy play, paint, collage, carpentry/construction, blocks, puzzles/games, role play/dress ups, playdough, books and music and cooking.
We are a fun, supportive group of parents and whānau who encourage one another to get involved with the running of the centre. We enjoy collectively making decisions which reflect our belief that parents and whānau are the best educators of our tamariki. We empower each other and our children to play, work, learn and grow together.
