Welcome to Toko Playcentre!
We are located in the Toko Village, down behind the hall and fire station. We are located 10 minutes from the town of Stratford.
We are a rural centre with an average of 18-20 families on our roll. Our members are supportive and friendly. Our sessions are open for all children, from birth to 6 years. We have mixed age sessions, with a focus on child initiated play.
Our children are supported to become confident, competent self-directed learners through play based around their interests. Our children gain knowledge through play, participation and positive guidance.
We have a huge range of resources at our modern centre for children to play and learn with. We have recently upgraded our whole outdoor area, installing a matting area around our fort complete with a bike track that the children are thoroughly enjoying, as well as re-doing our sandpit area to include a water pump and river running down into the sandpit and underneath the boardwalk.
We go an an excursion at least once a term, making sure we visit different places and try to focus on a place that will extend our children’s learning interests at the time.
Come along any time to visit our centre. Your first three visits are free! Bring along a lunchbox and drink bottle for your child and a few spare clothes, morning tea and coffee, tea or milo is supplied for the adults.

At Playcentre, early childhood education is a shared journey. We value parents as the first and best educators for their tamariki, which is why parents attend alongside their tamariki – to play, learn and grow together.
Whether you have a new pēpī, preschooler, or are new to a community, Playcentre provides a place for whānau and communities to come together.
If you care for tamariki aged 0-6, we invite you to visit and experience our affordable, unique, and child-led environment. Our centres encourage learning through free play and nurture imagination, confidence, and connection.
Our licensed early learning centres follow the Ministry of Education’s world-leading bicultural curriculum, Te Whāriki, offering 16 different areas of play set up to cater for different interests, skills, ages and abilities.
We also provide a free, NZQA-approved, adult education programme for enrolled whānau to add practical strategies and skills to your parenting toolbox.
We offer three visits before you enrol. Arrange a visit today and experience our supportive, fun and friendly community for yourself!
