Workshops, webinars and self-directed learning are underway for Playcentre Education!  Term 1 is a great time to make a start or re-start.

A key difference between Playcentre and other ECEs is the active involvement of parents as the first and best educators of their children – whānau tupu ngātahi, families growing together.  Playcentre Education equips parents and caregivers with the skills and confidence to be amazing educators on Playcentre sessions and at home.  The strategies learned transfer beyond the Playcentre gate and beyond the Playcentre years.

Some of the things you might learn from Playcentre Education include:

  • How can I set up fun play experiences?
  • How can I help my child self-regulate their emotions?
  • How I can encourage friendships and social play?
  • How can I prevent my child from having tantrums and how do I respond when it happens?
  • What do I do when my child excludes others or is being excluded?
  • How can I bring our whānau culture into Playcentre and celebrate the cultures of other families?
  • What can I expect my child to do at different ages and stages?

What’s on Offer

To find out more about Playcentre Education, check out What we offer | Playcentre.  It is free to participate and all resources are included.  You sign up module by module – there is no long term commitment.

Upcoming Modules

All modules – online and face-to-face – are booked through the Playcentre website Find a Workshop or online module | Playcentre.  There are three delivery options, and you can mix options for each module:

  • Face-to-face workshops.  Small groups, in person in local Playcentres.
  • Webinar workshops.  Small groups, real-time discussion online.
  • Self-directed learning.  Self-paced learning (videos, readings, discussion forums) via the iQualify learning platform.

Modules are small so that you can take on learning in small bites.  Choose the option and dates/times that suit you best to get started!  A full enrolment is required at the start of the first module and then it is easy to add on additional modules.

How to Enrol

All new participants start with PE1 Ūkaipōtanga – Let’s Play.  Ūkaipōtanga is about being grounded to where you are and developing a sense of belonging.  This module will help you understand the basics of being involved at Playcentre – what do you do to set up and join play, how to set up a profile book and write learning stories.  Enrolment information

Choose the PE1 module that suits you best from the options at Find a Workshop or online module | Playcentre.  You will then receive an automated email with a link to download an enrolment pack.  It should arrive within a minute – check your junk folder as it sometimes goes there!
