The Professional Learning and Development (PLD) team are currently offering three PLD opportunities starting in June including:

  • Safeguarding Tamariki in Playcentre.
  • Transition from ECE to Playcentre.
  • He Māpuna te Tamaiti: Supporting Social and Emotional Competence in Early Learning.

You can read more about them on the PLD Upcoming Programmes page.

Much of the PLD teams’ work is delivery of SELO (Strengthening Early Learning Opportunities for children, whānau, families and communities) facilitation.  This work is funded by the Ministry of Education.

The outcomes of SELO programmes include:

  • Embedding the Statement of National Education and Learning Priorities (NELP) into practice.
  • Supporting Playcentre whānau to be kaiako on Playcentre sessions.
  • Maintaining and strengthening a culture of review through internal evaluation.
  • Building pedagogical leadership at all levels of Playcentre.

There are two main types of programmes:

  1. Cluster programmes – These support Playcentres to learn about and implement internal evaluation in their centres.
  2. Leadership programmes – These focus on helping kaiako to support the play and learning of our tamariki.  The Leadership programmes are focused on Playcentre leadership, Te Ao Māori leadership and Pacific leadership.

The PLD team is also able to provide one-off PLD workshops to centres across the county.

Our next round of Programme Allocation starts in July.  You can contact Rebecca Congalton – [email protected] if you have any PLD requests for your centre or region.
