Kia ora e te whānau,

Over the coming months there are two important opportunities for Centre whānau to help shape the future direction of Playcentre Aotearoa. We encourage everyone to get involved — your voices and choices can help shape our collective journey.

Trustee Board Elections 2025

With both Whare having completed their Candidate Selection processes, the names of the successful candidates have now been passed to the Returning Officer for inclusion in the Centre whānau vote. We want to thank all our Representatives who gave their time and energy to the selection process — your contributions are deeply appreciated.

Now it’s time to prepare for voting! Candidate outlines for Te Whare Tikanga Māori and Tangata Tiriti are available for you to view, along with guidance on how voting works, here: Trustee Board Elections

Voting is an important way for every whānau to have a say in the leadership of our organisation, with each whānau with one or more tamariki enrolled in Playcentre at the time of the election eligible to vote.

On 16 or 17 September, all eligible Centre whānau will receive an email from t[email protected] with a link to cast your vote.

Please keep an eye out — this is your chance to have a direct say in Playcentre’s future.

Centre Whānau Survey

We’re always looking for ways to strengthen your Playcentre experience — and this is your chance to share what matters most.

You’ll notice a few differences in this year’s Centre Whānau Survey, following input from Representatives involved in the He Tukutuku project. We would like to thank all the Representatives who contributed their time, energy, and insight to this mahi — your involvement has been invaluable. The project, with Trustees and Representatives working together, seeks community input into the strategic planning process. The insights gathered through this survey will directly inform the Trustee Board’s strategic planning for the coming years. Drawing inspiration from the traditional art of Tukutuku, where intricately woven panels tell ancestral histories through aho (strips of harakeke), highlighting the importance of community-driven insights in shaping the future direction of Playcentre.

We warmly invite feedback from all current and past Playcentre members — including whānau Māori, and whānau who are part of our neurodiverse, disabled, or rainbow communities.

The survey takes around 15 minutes to complete and will be sent to all Centre whānau on Monday 22 September. Everyone who participates goes into the draw to win a $100 Playcentre Shop voucher.

Your voice matters — please take the opportunity to share your perspective.

Hapori

We’ve been delighted to hear about the Hapori activities happening across the motu this term — from celebrating Playcentre Education achievements, to building shared understanding of the new operational model, and enjoying local excursions together.

Hapori are a wonderful way for geographically close Centres to come together, tackle common challenges, celebrate successes, and support each other. They also offer chances to learn new skills, connect socially, and strengthen community ties.

If you’d like help connecting with your local Hapori group, your Centre Advisor is ready to support you. Your next Hapori meet-up could also be a great opportunity to spark kōrero and encourage participation in both the Trustee Elections and the Centre Whānau Survey.
