Outdoor Play Week

Playcentre Aotearoa is encouraging whānau with pēpi and tamariki across Aotearoa to embrace outdoor play (tākaro ki waho) as part of Playcentre Outdoor Play Week, from 4-8 November.

Playcentres across the country are inviting families to visit and experience some of the awesome outdoor play experiences on offer in recognition of Play Week Aotearoa which is run annually by Sport NZ.

The theme of Playcentre’s Outdoor Play Week this year is “The Wonderful Outdoors” or “Tino Taiao.”

Competition

We’d love to see how you encourage outdoor play and what you get up to on excursions!

Please tag us into your social media posts about Outdoor Play Week or email your videos and photos to [email protected] along with some kōrero to be in to win $250 for your Centre. Entries close Sunday 10 November.

We’ll share them on the national social media channels so please make sure you have permission from all whānau.

Outdoor Play Week is a great time to showcase your Centre, and we encourage you to regularly share what makes your Centre unique with your local communities.

Grandparents Day – Competition Winners

Congratulations to Clare Palmer who is the winner of our Grandparents Day competition. Clare will receive a hammer mosaic set and friends and neighbours game prize pack from the Playcentre Shop.

Clare takes her granddaughter, Violet, to Wallaceville Playcentre in Upper Hutt, and says “it is wonderful to watch Violet starting to engage with the other children as well as gaining confidence in the physical challenges and learning through play. Her favourite activity is anything involving water.”

Congratulations also to Sharyn Kerr who is the winner of our “Nominate an amazing Grandparent” competition. Sharyn will receive a beautiful bunch of flowers from Interflora.

Sharyn has been a part of Dinsdale Playcentre with her own tamariki, her mokopuna and now all of her grand-friends. Her Centre whanau describe her as everyone’s favourite Playcentre grandma! She is full of wonderful ideas, and is loved for engaging with tamariki, showing genuine care, and building strong connections.

Thank you to all the wonderful grandparents who attend Playcentre and support learning through play for their mokopuna (grandchildren).  “Whānau tupu ngātahi – families growing together” is what Playcentre is all about!

New Facebook Group for Community Leaders

This new Facebook group is for leaders of local Playcentre communities to discuss ideas, ask questions and support each other as a wider leadership community across Aotearoa.

If you hold a leadership position at your local Centre, we encourage you to join this page.

There are some posts about the new operational model you may wish to share/discuss with your Centre whānau as a starting point. We encourage anyone who joins the group to post your own questions and comments and enjoy the support of your leadership community!
