Ka nui te mihi ki a koutou i runga i ngā tini āhuatanga o te wā.
Kei te harikoa e tata atu anō tātou ki te wā kia whakanui o tō rātou reo rangatira, ā, he reo e ora ana, he reo e whakatipu ana i roto i te ngākau o te tangata.
Hepetema (September) is a wonderful time of the year when we celebrate and honour our indigenous language, te reo Māori, as a unique taonga to be treasured by all New Zealanders. It’s also Mahuru Māori, a challenge to kōrero Māori so kia kaha te reo Māori!
Goals of Te Wiki o te Reo Māori
- Create a positive environment for the use of Māori language.
- Promote Māori language initiatives and events.
- Encourage non-Māori speaking New Zealanders to use reo Māori.
- Encourage speakers of Māori to support others who are just starting out.
- Encourage community, business, government and media organisations to participate.
- Promote resources to make Māori language more accessible.
- Contribute to awareness of the Crown Māori Language Strategy and the Māori and iwi strategy that work together for revitalisation.

Te Wā Tuku Reo Māori – Māori Language Moment
This year, as part of Te Wiki o te Reo Māori we would like everyone to participate in ‘Te Wā Tuku Reo Māori – Māori Language Moment’ on Thursday 14 September at 12pm. You can kōrero (speak), waiata (sing), pānui (read) and more – Whatever you do, do it in te reo Māori.

Poroaki ki a Emma Rolleston
E kī ana te kōrero, iti rearea, kahikatea ka taea, tēnā koutou, tēnā koutou, tēnā koutou katoa.
He rā whakahirahira tēnei ahakoa he rā pouri hoki mō tātou katoa, he poroaki tō tātou hoa me kaimahi e Emma. Kauanuanutia ana ia e tōna kāhui, e ōna hoa me ngā kaimahi me ngā whānau o Te Whānau Tupu Ngātahi o Aotearoa.
I wehe a Emma i te mahi Kaihononga Māori ā te Hereturikōkā. Nō reira, e Emma ngā mihi aroha me ngā manaakitanga e te kāhui o Hononga Māori ki a koe. He tino toki koe!
He iti tangata e tupu, he iti toki e iti tonu.
As the saying goes, even the small rearea bird can ascend to the great heights of the kahikatea tree, Emma’s reach has been far and wide and with that in mind I greet you all.
This is indeed an auspicious notwithstanding sad occasion for us all, the farewell of our dear friend and colleague Emma. Emma was well respected by her friends, colleagues and whānau of Playcentre Aotearoa.
Emma has left her role as Kaihononga Māori in August. Therefore, Emma we the Hononga Māori team wish you lots of aroha and well wishes. You are a champion!
